Meet Atropos
After relocating from Georgia to Minnesota and settling into our new surroundings, our fascination with reptiles only grew stronger. It was during this time that we stumbled upon our “normal” ball python, Atropos, through an advertisement on craigslist. The individuals who had previously adopted her shared a heart-wrenching story of rescuing her from a neglectful home where she was confined to a closet, while the previous owners would smoke within the residence.
After welcoming Atropos into our home, we soon realized the extent of the challenges she faced. Her vision was severely impaired, with cracked, foggy and dull eyes that were not a result of stuck-shed. We couldn’t help but attribute this condition to the prolonged exposure to smoke she had endured in her previous environment. Determined to provide her with the care she deserved, we embarked on a journey that demanded immense patience and dedication.
It took nearly a year of meticulous care and attention before we began witnessing remarkable improvements in Atropos’ condition. Although her vision will never fully recover, she can now perceive her surroundings with much greater clarity. We estimate her age to be around 8 years old, and she stands as our second largest ball python.
